So, as the title, I have made a very simple filter for the aquarium! First, see the picture below.

Well, the filter consist of a plastic bottle (preferrably one with wide mouth), ceramic media, airline and air pump. Simple right? And it is easy to do it too! I came across a video of doing this at Youtube and think what a great idea! This filter is very convenient during power outage, you just have to switch from electrical air pump to a battery powered air pump. As the person in the video (I'll post below) said, this could save your fish life!

Since I couldn't embed it here, click on the link -------->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXDzgM9x3tc

Just listen and follow the instruction step by step. Really great DIY project! :)

Today I've added 5 new member to the 2.5 feet aquarium! 5 Green Tiger Barb, same species with different colours and pattern!

The colour is really different from the normal Tiger Barb, however the behaviour is the same, nipply, active little fish!

Next I'm going to add another 5 more member, making it 20 in total. Another variety of the Tiger Barb, which is the Albino Tiger Barb! Really pretty too :)

I think I'm going to buy them next week, can't wait! Of course the aquarium isn't complete yet as I still want to do some changes to it.

You may read Part 1 here.

Despite my determination to move away and convert to full time study mode, it didn't happen. Still in the part time mode, that take 5 years to finish my degree ._____.

However, I think this is for the best. Allah have planned my life and I trust everything to Him.

So for now, I will, Insha-Allah, study hard for my degree. I still unemployed however I don't think it should stop me. This my opportunity to focus on my study and my almost-daily gym activity. Yes, beside getting the dean's list, I am determine to lose much much more weight!! :D

Furthermore this semester I only have 1 final exam paper, the 4.0 future seem so clear, yet I can't be to sure or arrogant! Study smart!!

The path have been laid before me, it is time for me to take the step forward, constantly looking back to remind me all the mistakes that I have made :)

Post #25 : Reviving the Hobby

The hobby mention here is fish keeping! Before cancer, I had a 4 feet normal dimension tank of tropical fish, with sands and plants! And then cancer happen. I just left the inhabitants of the aquarium to die, only feeding them once a day :(

Now, since cancer is not a barrier to do vigorous work anymore, I've decided to continue this hobby of mine! I've started with the 2.5 feet length with 1.5 feet height and width aquarium. The 4 feet is empty for now.

Miraculously, 5 Java fern that I had neglected in the messy, smelly, greenish aquarium survive like it was nothing. So does the 1 blue gourami and 10 tiger barb! The inhabitant that didn't survive was 1 angelfish (too sad when it die), 2 blue gourami, 2 black molly, 5 jullie corydoras. I was too weak to do anything that time, can't rely on others to do it. Anyway the thing already happen, and I look forward to this new beginning!

The 2.5 feet tank was originally planned for a pair of blue german ram, however plan often changed. Now it houses 4 Java fern with 10 tiger barb!

The water was still cloudy, thanks to the sand

I began setting up this aquarium last Wednesday (17 October).  Since it's small, it's not really a problem setting it up.

Taken on 18/10/12. The water is much clearer than before!
The problem I have with this particular tank is the filter. The powerhead sucks in the water too fast, and the top filter can handle all the water resulting leaking water from the filter. Luckily I was home with my father, and we were able to stop it from getting out of control. We drilled 8 extra hole in the top filter and voila! no problem!

My plan for this aquarium :
1)Add another 15 tiger barb (maybe the green & albino variety)
2)Add some rocks or cave for hiding
3)Add more Java fern

I would not add other fish since the current is strong and tiger barbs are really notorious fin nippers!!

Well, the month of Ramadhan did change me! Alhamdulillah!

Several month neglecting this blog, I feel obliged to maintain it and update it regularly now! New semester have begun, still only four subject per semester. Still no job. Flu is a norm. No sign of cancer(so far). Looking forward for a healthy life!

I'm actually very excited with this semester since we are going to publish a magazine! I don't even know why, since I have no idea how to organise the materials, let alone how to publish it! But that's why we learn, no? :)

Aidilfitri 2012 was normal. I can't eat many of the food served but its cool. I'm not even bothered by it. What's important that is the bond we strengthen that day! The same scenario for open houses. I know I can't anything, and this often make the host feel bad for not remembering my condition. However, a brief explaining and convincing settle everything. After all, to lose weigh, its not about what you eat, its what you don't eat! Pretty much like me! Haha

Now, 2012 is coming to the end in a two month! Time fly so fast! Allah, That's why we musn't waste time my friends! I think this is it for now.
